Bani Thani

Bani Thani - A Rajasthani Artist & Queen

BANI THANI

Bani Thani, born Vishnupriya, was a talented singer and poet in the court of King Sawant Singh of Kishangarh (1748–1764).

The king fell in love with her talent and beauty and their love bloomed due to a shared interest in singing, poetry and devotion for Krishna.

She became known as 'Bani Thani', which means "a well dressed lady", due to the exquisite jewellery and makeup that she used to adorn herself with after becoming queen.

Their love became legendary, and inspired much of the evocative and romantic painting for which Kishangarh is justly famous.
